The Supreme Court decides Louisiana v. Callais

Decided 6-3: the Voting Rights Act did not require a second majority-minority district

The Voting Rights Act, the Court held six to three, did not require Louisiana to draw a second district where Black voters could elect the candidate of their choice. The map accused of being a racial gerrymander turned out to be the one with the second district in it.

Mid-decade redistricting had been running for eight months by then. By the Cook Political Report's count the whole map war moved about eight seats toward Republicans and two toward Democrats, and cut the competitive field from 87 seats to 77. The districts arrive in November whether or not the reasoning does.
