The U.S.-China truce expires

The truce expires seven days after the election. It was bought last October, when the 100 percent tariff threatened over rare earths — "over and above any Tariff they are currently paying" — was dropped at the summit in exchange for a year: the reciprocal-tariff suspension held to November 10, 2026, and China's export controls paused for the same twelve months.

The Treasury secretary said in May the administration was "not in a hurry" to extend it. Whatever happens to the tariffs today happens with the ballots already counted, which is its own kind of scheduling.
