FY2027 begins under a continuing resolution

The fiscal year turns today under a stopgap the House passed 370 to 48 and the president signed on September 2, five weeks before the election. Of the twelve annual spending bills, none has been enacted.

The last time he took the mantle for a shutdown it ran 35 days, cost $11 billion by the budget office's count, about $3 billion of it never recovered, and ended with the same deal that was on the table before it started. This year the fight was moved to December 11, which is five weeks after the vote.
