Homan says 'get them out quick' on deportations, then denies ICE terrorizes children.
Look, 'get them out quick' is not a threat, it's a workflow, and if you'd ever run a large-scale federal removal operation — which, statistically, you have not — you'd know that speed is a mercy, it's a kindness, it's — okay, it's fast, I'll give you fast, but fast isn't the same as callous, fast is just fast. Tom Homan says it after the Yiannopoulos deportation and everybody acts like 'get them out quick' is some kind of slogan you'd put on a t-shirt, when really it's just standard operating procedure stated out loud, which, fine, sure, is unusual for this administration to do out loud, that part I'll give you. Now, separately — and I want to stress separately, these are two different news cycles, they only look connected because somebody put them next to each other — Homan also went after a Democratic senator for saying ICE terrorizes children. Takes it head-on, per the report, which is the correct posture, the confident posture, deny first, clarify never, that's not evasive, that's message discipline. Does it complicate things that the same guy who just got done bragging about getting people out quick is also the guy denying the process is frightening to kids? I mean — does it? Let me think about that. No. No, it doesn't. It's apples and oranges. One's about processing time, the other's about tone, and tone is subjective, whereas 'quick' is just a number, it's operational, it's — actually, hold on, if the goal is to get people out quick and the claim being denied is that the process terrorizes kids, then the denial is sort of resting on the same machine that's bragging about its own speed, and speed, when you're eight years old and it's happening to your family, might, conceivably, from a certain point of view, feel like — you know what, strike that, I didn't say that, that's not the talking point, somebody get me the talking point. The talking point is: enforcement is enforcement, quick is compassionate, and anyone telling you otherwise is politicizing a removal timeline, which, again, is just a number. It's just a number. I'm going to stop talking now.
