As it ran on the front
Look, the RNC chair is simply laying out a fact pattern here: a Democratic majority in Congress is — and I want to be precise about the language — a direct threat to the Jewish community. That's not rhetoric, that's a warning, delivered the same way you'd warn somebody about a storm front. You don't blame the meteorologist for the storm. You blame — well, actually, nobody's saying you blame anyone, we're just naming the storm. Did I say storm? I meant majority. The majority is the storm. Moving on.
And look at the other side of the ledger, because this is the part that actually shows the good faith here: the president himself is on record backing a Christian-backed plan to help Canadian Jews escape antisemitism. That's compassion. That's leadership. That's a sitting president looking north of the border and saying, we see a problem, and we're going to back a solution, and the solution happens to be organized by — okay, it's a Christian-backed plan. For Jewish families. I understand how that reads out loud. It reads like the emergency exit was designed by somebody who wasn't in the building. But the intent is what matters here, and the intent, again, according to the same party warning that the other party in Congress is the direct threat, is protection.…
…(cont) So you've got a threat warning pointed at one direction and a rescue plan pointed at the exact same population, coming from the exact same political operation, in the exact same week. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that doesn't sound like an operation running two messages to two audiences at once. Because it does. It sounds exactly like that. I need a minute.
Here's the actual talking point, and I should've led with this: concern for a community is not disqualified by who's expressing it or how convenient the timing is. That's the whole defense. It's not a great defense. I'm aware it's not a great defense. But it's the one we've got, and until somebody hands me a better one, I'm running it back exactly as written, storm front and all.
