Trump backs plan to rescue Canadian Jews from antisemitism, Google renames their lake anyway.

This reporter has spent the better part of a week fielding calls about the President's outreach to Canadian Jewish communities, and let me be clear: this is compassion, plain and simple. Fox News reported it straight — the administration is indicating support for a Christian-backed initiative designed to help Jews in Canada escape a rising tide of antisemitism. That's the kind of moral clarity the doubters said we didn't have. Full stop.
Now, some of you are going to try to connect this to the executive order renaming maps — Lake Ontario suddenly appearing as 'Lake America' on Google's own platform — and I want to say, before anyone gets excited, that this is completely unrelated. Google made an independent business decision to update its cartographic data. Nobody told them to do that. Well — nobody that we're aware of. The order specified new names for certain geographic features, and Google, being a responsible corporate citizen, implemented the update. That's compliance, not conquest.…
…(cont) Did I say compliance? I meant — look, corporations update their maps for lots of reasons. Sometimes it's an executive order. This happens to be one of those times. That doesn't mean territorial ambition, it means responsiveness to federal guidance, which is what we want from American tech companies, isn't it? Consistency. Following instructions. That's patriotism, not annexation.
As for the plan to help Canadian Jews — again, wholly separate initiative, wholly humanitarian, no connection whatsoever to anything involving borders, water rights, or the fact that Lake Ontario happens to sit along the line between two sovereign nations. It's just a lake. Well, it was just a lake. Now it's Lake America, but that's cartography, not diplomacy.
Look, you want to make something sinister out of a rescue plan and a map update happening the same week, that's your prerogative, but this reporter isn't going to sit here and pretend two unrelated events add up to some kind of pattern. They're unrelated. They are entirely unrelated events. I've said that three times now, which is exactly the number of times a person says something when it's true and doesn't need repeating, not less. This administration helps people. Sometimes it also updates a map. These are two facts that happen to sit next to each other in the news cycle, and this reporter refuses to draw a line between them, a line which, again, would run roughly along the 45th parallel.
