Border czar denies ICE arrests kids at school bus stops as agency expands deportations to Africa.

To address the claim directly: Immigration and Customs Enforcement does not conduct operations at school bus stops. That is not how enforcement priorities work, and frankly it's irresponsible to suggest armed officers are staged where children gather each morning, waiting for the — well, 'waiting' is one word for it, 'stationed' might be more accurate to what was alleged, but the agency's position, and I'm reading directly from the agency's position, is that the claim is rejected in full.
Separately — and I want to stress separately, because these are two unrelated items that happen to be running the same week — the agency has expanded what's called third-country removal, meaning individuals, including Afghan nationals, are now being sent to African nations rather than their countries of origin. This is standard practice. It has always been standard practice. It became standard practice recently, is what I mean, which is a different thing from always, I realize, but the point stands that it's practice now, and practice is what we defend here.…
…(cont) Now, is there a connection between a denial issued about enforcement near children and an expansion of removals to a third continent? No. There is no connection. One is a personnel deployment question, the other is a diplomatic logistics question, and just because both involve the same agency, the same week, doesn't mean — actually, I suppose it does mean they're both actions taken by the same agency in the same week, that part's just arithmetic, I can't spin arithmetic.
What I can tell you is that the denial of the bus-stop claim stands, on the record, as the agency's final word on the matter, and the flights to Africa are a logistics story, not an enforcement story, and I would ask that the two be covered on separate pages, ideally not the same page, ideally not this page.
