The Department of Defense confirmed Sunday that American forces conducted a precision strike on Iranian rocket-launching positions, and let this reporter be clear: this is not an escalation, this is a scheduled recalibration of deterrence posture that happens to involve munitions. Officials at the briefing described it as the first strike since late July, which — and I want to be precise here — is also being reported elsewhere as the first strike in over a month, and also the first strike in weeks. The net is fine. The net has always been fine. We are simply adding nets.
Some critics will ask why a country can strike another country's rocket launchers for the 'first time' on four separate occasions within a five-week window. This reporter would direct those critics to consult a calendar, which — having just done so myself — actually does support their point. Never mind. The strikes stand. The 'first time' stands. All four of them.
