Nobody killed this. That's the part worth sitting with. No editor ordered redundancy, no press release demanded quadruple billing — the system just does this now, reflexively, the way a body keeps producing something even after the organ that regulates it has quit. It is not shit, exactly. It's closer to bunk dressed as diligence: four outlets each protecting themselves against the possibility that the other three might have said it first.
The man is not dead. His job with the national team is. That's worth being precise about, because precision is the one thing this particular arrangement forgot to bring.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for one wire report next time, with the other three outlets linking to it instead of re-filing it. It costs nothing and it would have been enough.
