No troops needed at the polls: one county closes 92, feds launch fraud sweep in nine states.

Here's a sentence you should read twice: a general went on the record saying the military doesn't plan to put troops at the polls in November. Nobody asked that question because it was calm and reasonable. Somebody asked it because it was a live enough possibility that a general had to answer it on the record. Sit with that a second before you move on to the next part.
Because the next part is where the actual work is happening. Not troops, nobody needs troops. Truthout's got a Texas swing county looking at shutting down 92 polling places before the midterm. Ninety-two. Not one contested precinct, ninety-two, in a swing county, ahead of an election that's going to be close everywhere it matters. You don't need a soldier at a polling place if the polling place isn't there anymore. That's not a threat, that's logistics, and it's a lot cheaper than a deployment.…
…(cont) And at the same time — same week, same news cycle — the Post is reporting a massive criminal voter fraud surge out of a California crackdown, with eight more states now targeted. Not eight states finding fraud. Eight states getting targeted for finding it, which is a different sentence with the same words rearranged. You get a federal fraud dragnet running at full speed in nine states and a quiet closure of 92 polling places in one Texas county, in the same season, and the official answer to 'are you sending troops to the polls' is a calm, reassuring no.
Nobody needs to send soldiers to stop you from voting. You just need the polling place gone and a federal investigator's name attached to the county that's still open. That's cheaper, it's quieter, and by the time anyone writes the after-action report, the precinct's already closed.
The reassurance is the tell. When they tell you calmly that the troops aren't coming, check what's happening to the polling places instead. That's where the actual work is, and it doesn't need a uniform to get done.
