Federalist warns Dems' 'gambit' will destroy SCOTUS as whistleblower says USPS secretly advances Trump's own mail-voting plan.
As it ran on the front
Excuse me — sorry, one second, I had this here somewhere. [pages] Here it is. I wrote this down because it stuck with me, this word — 'gambit.' That's the word they used. 'Dems' Gambit To Destroy SCOTUS.' A gambit, that's a chess word, my nephew plays chess, he tells me a gambit is when you give something up early to get a bigger advantage later. So I wrote it down, 'gambit,' and I kept looking at it.
And then I'm reading the other story, the one about the mail. There's a whistle-blower — that's a person inside the agency, USPS, telling reporters that the Postal Service is, quote, 'secretly proceeding' — that's the word they used too, 'secretly' — on a mail voting plan, and this plan belongs to the administration, and it's happening before the midterms. Before the vote. I wrote that down too. 'Secretly. Before the midterms.'…
…(cont) Now, I got a shredder at home, a little one, for junk mail. And I noticed something about shredders — they don't care whose paper goes in. You feed it a bill, you feed it a ballot application, comes out the same confetti. I mention that because both of these stories are, at bottom, about paper — who touches the mail, who counts the mail, who decides how the mail moves before an election. One side's paper is a 'gambit to destroy' an institution. The other side's paper is a 'plan,' proceeding, quietly, that we only know about because somebody inside blew the whistle on it.
I keep coming back to that word, 'secretly.' Because a gambit, my nephew tells me, you can see coming — that's the whole point of chess, the move's out in the open, you just don't see where it leads yet. But 'secretly proceeding' — that's not a move out in the open. That's a move nobody sees until somebody inside the building decides to say something.
So — and I'm sorry, I know you're headed out — just one more thing before you go. Which one of these two mail operations, the loud one they warned you about or the quiet one the whistleblower had to surface, was actually running without anybody watching?

“The Federalist piece is commentary, it's not accusing anyone of anything that isn't already public, and the USPS story is — it's a whistleblower claim, that's not the same as a proven 'secret plan,' well, it is described that way in the reporting, so — the point is due process for one side and speculation for the other, that's consistent, that's just word choice.”
