People will tell you these are unrelated stories — one's immigration enforcement, one's a dispute over footage at an airport — and technically, sure, different case numbers. But the reader at the end of the bar doesn't experience federal power case-number by case-number. He experiences it as a mood that shows up at the gate, at the door, at the workplace, and the mood doesn't check whether you're a father of three from Queens or a member of the United States Congress before it decides to walk over. That's not a bug in the system. That's the system showing you its actual range, at scale, in a single week, for anyone still wondering how far the number 2,197 is meant to travel.
