Sky owner compares Kanter ejection to shooting a gun, calls resulting lawsuit meritless

A man arguing in federal court that a private franchise cannot punish his speech is, in the same two weeks, demanding that same league legally bar people from playing based on biology alone. Those are not the same fight for freedom, and nobody covering this as a box score is asking him which one he actually believes.

This reporter has called blowouts, buzzer-beaters, and now, it seems, gunplay analogies. Chicago Sky owner Michael Alter explained the ejection of Enes Kanter Freedom from Wintrust Arena, telling Fox News on August 26th, 2025, that barring a man from the building was no different than firing a weapon — certain threats, Alter said, don't get a warning.
Kanter Freedom didn't wait long. He announced the very next day, August 27th, that he and his legal team would sue the Sky and Alter both, Fox News reported, the young man apparently unmoved by the owner's colorful defense.
And why the fight, this reporter wondered, until August 28th's word came down: Kanter Freedom, angling for a spot in the 2028 WNBA Draft, said he'd drop his whole campaign tomorrow if the league would simply reserve the gals' court for biological women only.
And today, Chicago's principal owner returns fire — not a general manager, not a coach, Michael Alter himself — calling the very lawsuit born of his own gunshot comparison "meritless and frivolous," CBS Sports reports.

That's August 26th of this year, 2026, sugar, not '25 — Fox News has it dated plain. And Alter wasn't just riffing for the cameras. He was laying track for a lawsuit he'd be calling meritless inside of two weeks.
It's the 2027 Draft, not '28. And they're the WNBA, Gus, not "the gals" — New York Post, August 28th, same interview where he said he'd drop everything.
There's your headline read back to you. The same man who told Fox a banned fan was dangerous enough to warrant shooting without warning is now telling CBS the lawsuit over that exact ejection has no basis at all. Either the threat was that serious, or the case is that weak. An owner doesn't get to file both versions in the same month.
Put the mic down, Gus — nobody's paying you for constitutional theory, they're paying you for the paint. But you're right that it's the same stretch of days: the Post ran his "biological females" ultimatum August 28th, sandwiched right between the lawsuit threat and today's filing, all of it dated, all of it him. Now go lie down before your blood pressure needs its own beat writer.

“Look, "meritless and frivolous" is just standard litigation boilerplate, every team's lawyers say that about every claim — did I say every? Fine, most claims. It's boilerplate that happens to follow the owner comparing the ejection to opening fire, but those are two separate statements from two separate — no, same guy, same month, forget I brought up the timeline.”
