And check the box score: the accusation was "furious" in the papers, the response was fifty generals wired to a machine, and the actual shortage — the thing that's supposed to keep us safe — is still just sitting there, unaddressed, un-investigated. They'll always find the money and the manpower to hunt the messenger; they never find it for the shelf that's empty.”
“Look, a polygraph isn't a punishment, it's a courtesy — you get to prove your loyalty on the record! The Pentagon has every right to protect classified munitions data, that's not intimidation, that's stewardship. And yes, fine, the memo they were investigating was correct — the Joint Chiefs did warn the war was hollowing out the stockpile — but leaking a true thing is still leaking, so, really, if you think about it, the accurate ones are the most dangerous. I don't — that's not what I meant to say. Strike that.”
