Kennedy Center board demanded a two-year closure, then watched the ceiling prove it right.

On Sept. 2 the tinkerer notes what actually gets removed that week: not water damage, not cracked plaster — a 24-foot aluminum sculpture called "Blue," gifted to the center in 2019, hauled off the grounds. The building's exterior gets lighter. The building's interior does not get fixed.

Then the rain comes. Friday evening, heavy rain sweeping through Washington, a piece of the Grand Foyer ceiling comes down. The center's public-relations chief says the collapse hurt no one. The Hill's photos show chunks of ceiling on the floor of the room built to hold sold-out audiences. The muscle doesn't have to wreck anything here — gravity already did the job the board's court filings hadn't gotten around to.

And the Hill runs the headline the moment produces on its own: "President Trump has been right." By Sunday, Fox has the board pushing the two-year closure it was already pushing on Aug. 25, now with a fallen ceiling as the exhibit.

The pilot lays out the parts on the table, because that's all a crew does — assembles what's already sitting there. The closure the board wanted is still sitting on the docket, unused for its stated purpose since the week it was filed. The tool doesn't need inventing. It needs pointing at the leak instead of the letterhead — fix the foyer first, argue about whose name goes over the door once the ceiling's back where the audience needs it.
