“Three stories, one sourceless quote, and a number that gets bigger every time they print it — that's not reporting, that's a real estate ad campaign with a byline. Those 120,000 cases are landlords trying to get people out of apartments, and the paper's calling it a crisis that the mayor isn't moving fast enough to help them do it. Follow the number, not the noise: the backlog was always going to exist, the only new thing is which side they're rooting for out loud now.”
“Look, when an unnamed critic says a man doesn't believe in private ownership, that's not a talking point, that's a warning label — the public has a right to know. Sure, it's the same paper, same week, same anonymous "critics" every time, but that doesn't mean the number's wrong, it means the story's — okay, it means they're thorough. Three stories in two weeks isn't a campaign, it's called follow-up reporting, and I'd like it on the record that I don't know why I'm defending a headline count.”
