Here is what never moves across three waves and two very different registers: nobody asking has one note to add to the ceremony itself. Not a name read differently, not a moment of silence lengthened, not a single thing about the actual dead. The entire content of the request, from the retired cops to the former mayor, is that the current mayor's body should not be standing on that plaza. That's not remembrance. That's a guest list, and the guy running it used to run the city.
