House panel summons LA mayor over alleged $1B funds scandal; gets a letter answering everything but the question.
“They found a billion dollars gone missing from homeless services and the response was a strongly worded letter. That's the whole trick — subpoena the number, get a paragraph back, nobody goes to jail and nobody gets housed. You can write "accountability" on a hearing calendar all you want; the check still doesn't clear.”
“Look, this is just basic oversight — taxpayers deserve to know where a billion dollars went, that's not a witch hunt, that's Tuesday. And if the mayor's office chooses not to hop a flight to Washington on our timeline, well, that's just- okay, that does sound bad when I say it out loud like that.”
