Trump's immunity claim rejected to keep his conviction standing, poised to erase his library fraud suit
“This is the con, plain as the docket number: same excuse gets you convicted or gets you off the hook depending which judge you catch and what's actually at stake. When it's a jury's guilty verdict, immunity means nothing; when it's a fraud lawsuit over library money, it's poised to make the whole case vanish before anybody puts a question under oath. That's not justice, that's a coin that only lands one way for the guy rich enough to keep flipping it.”
“Look, these are two completely separate courts, two completely separate judges, applying the same doctrine to two completely different sets of facts — that's not inconsistency, that's federalism working exactly as designed. Sure, one judge said the immunity claim doesn't even get him out of state court and the other one says it might wipe out an entire federal case, but — okay, when you say it back to me like that it does sound like I'm defending a claim that only wins when there's donor money on the line.
