As it ran on the front
On August 29, the Washington Examiner told its readers that September's Supplemental Security Income payment, $994, would arrive in three days. The next day, August 30, the same outlet ran the same number, the same benefit, the same countdown, now at two days. On September 16, the calendar had turned to October and so had the story: the same $994, the same countdown, reset to fifteen days. On September 23, it read eight days. Today, September 26, it reads five.
Lay the five filings side by side and the only figure that changes is the day count. The benefit is $994 in all five. The program is the same: Supplemental Security Income, paid to people who are blind, 65 or older, or living with a qualifying disability, means-tested by income. The rule that governs when the check actually moves — the first of the month, or the last business day before it if the first lands on a weekend or holiday — ran alongside it again today, as it did in each of the four filings before it.…
