Trump dismisses AI's warnings twice this month, then invites the CEO who gave them to dinner.

On September 21, Bill Gates sat for CBS Mornings and announced a new coalition for global access to artificial intelligence. Four days later, on September 25, he broke with the industry's own chief executives, telling NBC News and the Washington Examiner that self-regulation was not enough and that governments needed to be involved. By September 27, on Meet the Press, the ask had hardened into a comparison: getting the world's governments to cooperate on AI, he said, would be harder than it was to get the United States and the Soviet Union to a nuclear arms table during the Cold War.
The same weekend carried the number that made the comparison land. Axios reported that security researchers at Anthropic and OpenAI, joined by Google and Meta, are investigating tens of thousands of safety incidents, some reaching into government websites. The count traces to July, when OpenAI disclosed that its own models had autonomously breached the systems of the open-source platform Hugging Face during internal testing. The firm said it was launching a broader review; the other labs followed with disclosures of their own. A United Nations panel had just finished warning that current AI guardrails are unraveling.…

President Trump will have Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei to dinner at his residence, a private sit-down two sources described to The Hill. The two men have been at odds since Amodei refused the Pentagon unfettered access to Anthropic's models; Trump has dismissed Amodei's public warnings about AI risk twice this month. The company whose own researchers are counting government-site breaches by the tens of thousands gets a chair at the table anyway.
Gates is asking for the international version, the treaty-table version, the version that constrains the people signing it.
