Hasan Piker's remarks about holding James Talarico accountable drew sharp rebukes from Ken Paxton and Ted Cruz ahead of the Texas Senate race.

Schumer's PAC spends real money closing a Texas Senate race; a livestreamer's ultimatum hands Republicans a free one.

As it ran on the front
The filing is dated Sept. 15: Talarico leads Paxton by three points, a Telemundo/Mason-Dixon poll of likely voters, before a single PAC dollar is on the books.
Seven days later, Sept. 22, James Carville goes on Fox News and tells Laura Ingraham that Hasan Piker "is not a Democrat" and should stop using the party's name. Nobody has spent a dollar defending Talarico from this yet; the distancing runs three days ahead of the first filing.…
…(cont) Sept. 25: Sen. Chuck Schumer files Texas Forever, a PAC under his Senate Majority PAC umbrella, built to close the seat for Talarico.
Two days after that, Sept. 27: the lead reads five points, Texas Public Opinion Research, 1,007 likely voters, margin of error 3.6.
Oct. 2: Fox News reports that Piker's demand that Talarico "enact far-left policy if elected" has drawn sharp rebukes from both Paxton and Cruz. No poll number is attached to this item yet. What is attached is a name check from both of Talarico's opponents, delivered the same week the PAC posted its first gain, and delivered free - no ad buy, no filing, no line item on anyone's FEC report.
That is the reconciliation: Schumer's PAC spent money to move two points. Piker spent nothing to hand Paxton and Cruz a quote they can run on a loop through November. The ledger does not balance in dollars; it balances in who gets the free inventory. Paxton's column gets a talking point that cost his campaign zero dollars to produce, authored by a man who is, per the party's own strategist, not a Democrat at all.
This is a comment on what two points cost to buy, and what it costs to hand the other side material for nothing. The PAC filing is a matter of public record; the ad spend behind Piker's remarks is zero, because broadcasting to millions does not require a budget when the audience already exists.
The next reading, whenever the pollsters run it, is the only entry that will say whether Oct. 2 lands in Paxton's column or in nobody's. Until then, the books show one side paying retail and the other side taking delivery, hon.
“Every dollar Schumer's PAC puts into Texas, Hasan Piker hands straight back to Paxton for the price of a livestream, and Carville was already on Fox three days before the money moved saying don't blame us for this guy. That's the con: the left spends to buy two points and a guy with no campaign account gives the other side the ad for free. A Senate seat turns on whether Democrats can out-fundraise their own livestreamers.”
“Hasan Piker isn't on any ballot, he's not staff, he's not even a Democrat — James Carville said so himself on television, so this is a non-story about a guy with a webcam. Sure, Paxton and Cruz are quoting him, but that's their choice to platform a livestreamer, not Talarico's doing. Did I just say Republicans are platforming him? That's not — that's not the point I meant to make.”
