President whose rallies dropped his own numbers broadcasts a senator's personal number instead.

As it ran on the front
Saturday, the President of the United States posted a phone number on Truth Social. Not a hotline, not a press-office extension — the personal cellphone of Senator Tom Cotton, a sitting Republican from Arkansas, accompanied by an instruction: call him, pressure him, make him move the Sunshine Protection Act off the Senate floor, where Cotton has it stalled. Cotton is "a friend of mine," the post said, before painting a target on a number Cotton presumably did not intend for the general public. Fox, NBC, CBS and the Hill all ran the same number within hours, a daylight-saving fight escalated from legislative persuasion to crowd-sourced harassment of his own party.
The week around it is the context the caption leaves out. Earlier in September, in Dallas, the president staged a convention built to carry Republicans into the midterms. On tape, leaked and published September 30, Ken Paxton — the Texas Senate nominee, who was in the room collecting whatever benefit that convention was supposed to deliver — told donors and lobbyists plainly what the event did to his own numbers: "It dropped our numbers." Not a rival's spin. The nominee's own account of the president's signature midterm production.…
…(cont) It identified him as "President of the Unites States."
None of these are the same failure. A typo is not a geography error, and a geography error is not a polling collapse. But they land in the same six weeks, from the same account, and they describe an operation whose outward-facing product — the letter, the map, the convention turnout — keeps coming back wrong. The response to that run of wrongness was not to tighten the operation. It was to post a colleague's cellphone number and let strangers finish the job the apparatus couldn't.
That's the pattern worth sitting with longer than the daylight-saving fight itself: when the machine can't move its own numbers, it reaches for someone else's — a senator's votes, a senator's floor time, and now, line by digit, a senator's phone.
“A convention that tanks his own candidate's numbers, a letter that can't spell the job it describes, a map that annexes a NATO ally into Florida — and his move is to publish a sitting senator's private cellphone number and point a crowd at it. That's not a pressure campaign, that's a dial tone laundered through outrage until a private number isn't private anymore. The guy who can't run his own operation is now running yours, one unknown-caller ring at a time.”
“Look, the Sunshine Protection Act passed the House in July, it's bipartisan, and the President is simply encouraging constituents to engage their elected — his number's basically public information anyway, it's not like — okay, it's his personal cell, I didn't say that part out loud. The point is Cotton's holding up a popular bill, and accountability means picking up the phone. Did I just defend posting a colleague's phone number online? That's not — that's not where I meant to land this.”
The receipts
Texas Republican US Senate nominee Ken Paxton privately conceded that President Donald Trump's big "Trumpapalooza" midterm convention in the state backfired politically. The New York Times on Wednesday published a leaked recording of Paxton telling right-wing donors and lobbyists last week that Trump's convention, held earlier this month…
