As it ran on the front
That is beat one: the government opened the file and its own chief tenant stepped back from it in the same news cycle.
By 15 October the file had a shape.…
…(cont) Three days later the file grew two more pages, pulling in opposite directions. Barack Obama, who rarely returns to domestic politics, called the operation "appalling," accusing the administration of using Homeland Security's machinery to go after a political opponent — a charge the government's own border czar, Tom Homan, answered hours later by telling Fox News investigators have a "strong case" against her, confidence delivered without a document to back it.
All together now — the document arrived anyway, from a direction nobody ordered: a conservative lawyer, writing to defend the investigation against exactly the "revenge" charge Omar's office and Obama were making, reported that the warrant for the raid on her home was signed by a judge who had once donated to Hillary Clinton. He meant it as proof the case wasn't rigged for Trump. Read again, all together now, and it proves something smaller: the government's "strong case" rests, this week, on a federal judge's campaign-finance history, offered as reassurance in a newspaper column — not on the case.
Omar's sister's phone, a text message on it, remains the known origin of the inquiry into the age on a decades-old citizenship form. The government has filed nothing larger since. What it has filed, this week, is a former president's adjective, an official's confidence, and a donor record offered as an alibi. None of the three is a document a defense attorney could file in court. All three were filed, this week, in the newspapers.

“They raided a sitting congresswoman's house over a text message, then told you the proof it's not political is a judge's donation history — that's not evidence, that's a horoscope with a law degree. The guy running the enforcement calls it a "strong case" and doesn't have to show you a page of it. Next week it's your neighbor's citizenship paperwork they decide to recheck, because this week it worked on hers.”
“Look, the judge who signed off donated to Hillary Clinton — you can't get more arms-length than that, case closed, this isn't persecution. Homan said "strong case," and Homan doesn't just throw that phrase around — well, he hasn't shown it, but that's classified, probably. The text message that started it? That's just how tips work, we don't pick where they come from, we just act on them, aggressively, repeatedly, at her house.”
