THE UNUSED MISSILES
Pentagon withholds NATO-paid Patriots with no explanation; a congressman vows to be 'fully accountable'

As it ran on the front
The chief assigned it the way these jobs start: unassembled parts on a loading dock, and a client, Kyiv, asking why the truck with its own name on the manifest still hasn't moved.
The crew already knew the shape of the job from the week behind it. The president had waived his own Russia sanctions law the night before it took effect. Russia answered with more than 320 drones on the grid. Secretary of State Rubio denied, for the second time in six days, that any intelligence pause had happened at all. Bipartisan senators demanded answers on the missing Starshield access, warning that Reagan would not recognize the room. And Putin pushed for a three-way summit with Trump and Xi that left Zelensky's chair empty.…
…(cont) The newest parts arrived dated. On October 15, with U.S.-Ukraine relations at what the Examiner called a low point, the United Kingdom sent its own defense secretary to ask Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth what had happened to Starshield service — no explanation offered then either. The same day, Vice President JD Vance promised, on tape, to honor congressional subpoenas against officials "selling access" to the White House — if Democrats retake Congress this fall. The planner clocked the conditional: the promise was dated to an election outcome, not to the asking.
By October 16, four Republican senators had joined Democrats in pressing the Pentagon directly for information on whether officials had ordered the Starshield restriction.
On October 19, Zelensky told U.S. senators from both parties, in a virtual meeting, that the U.S. military is intentionally delaying Patriot missiles NATO has already paid for, and that Starshield's limits still have no explanation. The same day, Representative Brian Fitzpatrick vowed to hold any U.S. official who limited Starshield "fully accountable."
The tinkerer looked at what was actually on the bench: hardware NATO bought and signed for, sitting in a warehouse on the Pentagon's own say-so, with no order and no name attached to the hold. The muscle wants the padlock cut first; it's the only thing keeping the parts apart from the war they were bought for. The pilot just wants a flight plan, and on October 20 got the shortest one on record: former Ambassador William Taylor said the pressure belongs on Putin, not on the government that already paid its bill.
“You already paid for it — that's the whole scam in one sentence. NATO signs the check, and then the same outfit that cashed it decides you don't get the keys till it feels like it. That's not a shipping delay, that's a toll booth with a Pentagon letterhead, and the people eating drones in Kyiv get a promise from Congress to "look into it."”
“Look, these things take time — logistics, security vetting, allied coordination, it's not like you just hand over Patriot missiles overnight... wait, NATO already paid for these, didn't they? Okay, the Secretary's just being prudent, there's probably a perfectly good classified reason we can't discuss it— why am I defending a guy who won't even say why he's holding them?”

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) revealed Monday that he would be speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about his country’s loss of access to Starshield, the military version of SpaceX’s Starlink internet, vowing to hold any U.S. officials who limited the application “fully accountable.”
The United Kingdom is positioning itself as a possible bridge-builder for the United States and Ukraine, prepared to mediate amid a “low point in U.S.-Ukraine relations.” No explanation has yet been given for the Starshield’s temporary lapse in service, which endangered swaths of Ukrainian military personnel and civilians by compromising…
